Live Animal Exhibits
Be sure to check out the live animals in the classroom. These aquaria and terraria provide a close-up look at some of the animals of the Preserve. Saltwater aquaria contain some of the common fish found in the waters around the Preserve. Mangrove crabs and fiddler crabs scurry around their tank, providing a rare glimpse into the world of these small crustaceans.

The red rat snake represents the nocturnal animals of the Preserve. Our Preserve Ordinance 08-29 protects flora and fauna of the Weedon Island Preserve. Therefore, we acquired this snake through a reputable dealer specifically for educational purposes. Preferring the safety of tight, dark spaces, our resident red rat snake often rests in its cave or nestles under its water dish.
