Paddling Trails
Two paddling trails are available for the public to enjoy at Weedon Island Preserve. The North Paddling Trail originates in an enlarged mosquito ditch at the parking area along the east side of San Martin Boulevard. This
2-mile trail meanders through mangroves and Snug Harbor before it terminates along the beaches at Gandy Boulevard.

Paddlers enjoy the South Paddling Trail at
Weedon Island Preserve.

NOTE: The North Paddling Trail is temporarily closed due to construction activities associated with the upgrade to Progress Energy's Bartow Power Plant.

The South Paddling Trail is a
4-mile loop best accessed at the canoe launch next to the fishing pier at the end of Weedon Drive NE. This trail meanders through mangroves and seagrass flats and between islands of the Preserve, and along the edge of Tampa Bay. Expect to see wading birds such as reddish egret, roseate spoonbills, and white ibis. Often dolphins, manatees, sharks, and schools of mullet are spotted in the backwaters of the Preserve. Both trails are best accessed during mid to high tides so be sure to check a tide chart before venturing on the paddling trails. Also, familiarize yourself with our suggested trail companions and trail rules before pushing off on your excursion.

Activities on the Preserve are governed by the Pinellas County Preserve Ordinance 08-29, while activities on the water are governed by Waterways Ordinance Chapter 130.
