Exhibits and Trails
Visitors to Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center will find a variety of activities for family members of all ages. The Center's educational mission also extends into the Preserve through its interpretative signage and programs. Volunteers and staff are available to answer questions and gather new ideas. Come enjoy "A Place to Remember" by visiting the following exhibits and trails.

"Weedon Island Preserve: Connecting People and Place"
Six galleries in this exhibit highlight the many aspects of the history, ecology, and archaeology of Weedon Island Preserve. Each gallery contains hidden worlds and secrets that await discovery.

Completed in 2007, cooperative funding for this project was provided by the Surface Water Improvement and Management Program and the Pinellas-Anclote River Basin Board of Southwest Florida Water Management District, Progress Energy, Friends of Weedon Island, Inc., and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners through the Penny for Pinellas.

Weedon Island Preserve Interpretative Trail
For more than 7,000 years, people have depended on the bounty of the Tampa Bay estuary for their survival and livelihood. Explore the connections between people and the Bay along this elevated boardwalk and paved trail system located adjacent to the Center.

Funding was provided by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Pinellas County Environmental Fund, Southwest Florida Water Management District, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Friends of Weedon Island, Inc., and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners through the Penny for Pinellas.

Spirit Vessel
Located at the heart of the Center is a Spirit Vessel, a multimedia experience of sound, video and light that depicts the interaction of humans and nature over time.

Funding for this exhibit was provided by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Virtual Tour
Whether viewed online or in the exhibit gallery, visitors can experience a "hands-on" virtual outreach of the Smithsonian Institution's collection of Weeden (alternate spelling) Island artifacts.

This video presentation was created in partnership with Native Americans, the Seminole tribe of Florida, the Smithsonian Institution, several local universities, and the Native American students at the Ahfachkee Seminole Tribal School at Big Cypress Reservation in south Florida.
